Kenya's hopes of moving up the rankings in the IRB will be pegged on performance at the upcoming Confederation of Africa Rugby tournament which will kick off on the 8th of this month through to the 12th in Casablanca, Morocco.
The 15 aside team will be aiming to regain the top spot in the 15's rugby scene in the continent having faded in the recent past.
Kenya will have to claim the scalp of Senegal with whom they are pooled in the Northern Zone which also consists hosts Morocco and Cameroon.
The winner in each of the fixture will set up a final duel against the victor from the Northern Pool which has Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Madagascar.
If Kenya overcomes the opposition of Senegal then that will earn them points and a push in the IRB rankings and will also keep them in the race for the continental championship which has reigning African champions Uganda and Tunisia.
Though the qualifiers will certainly gauge Kenya's strength at the continental arena in the 15's rugby, coach Michael Tank Otieno believes in his side whose bulk of players have been drawn from the sevens team.
The side will be captained by Impala player Innocent Simiyu, sevens regulars Wilson Kopondo, Ben Nyambu and Gibson Weru. The team will leave the country this Sunday for the tourney.
