The Government, in partnership with the private sector, has embarked on a major facelift of the city of Nairobi that will see the city regain her image as a world class metropolis.
Speaking in Nairobi during the launch of the programme, Government Spokesman, Dr. Alfred Mutua, said that the facelift, which encompasses the areas of beautification, security, and street address system and road maintenance, will help to attract investors.
"The way a city looks and feels has a direct psychological and social impact on its stability, economic drive and growth," he said.
Mutua said the aim of the beautification is to use available resources to transform haphazard landscaping of bushes to beautiful lawns and hedges that communicate order and success.

To enhance their security Mutua called on Nairobians to supplement Government efforts by installing 20,000 CCTV cameras on their buildings and estate gates to record criminal activities.
On street numbering, Mutua said new laws will be gazzeted to ensure building and home owners comply with the initiative to assist in directions and response to emergencies.
The Government spokesman announced that the Government, in collaboration with the private sector especially paint companies, will mark and maintain all the 370 Nairobi bumps and major roads.
Mutua said despite the challenges the country is facing the government is committed in achieving vision 2030 within the stipulated or lesser period.
The government spokesman was accompanied by permanent secretary's in the ministries of metropolitan and local government who assured the public of their support in regaining the glory of Nairobi city.
The Nairobi beautification programme is an initiative of various stakeholders including the ministries of Nairobi Metropolitan, Local Government, Internal Security, Roads, Lands, Nairobi city council and the Nairobi Central Business District Association.
Mutua said the initiative will involve numbering of streets and building in the Nairobi central business district, industrial area, upper hill, community, Hurlingam and West lands area.
The beautification programme is utilizing the Vijana Kwa Kazi initiative and city council staff members.
