The Mara marathon will now take place on November 22 instead of November 29th
The event had been postponed due to the Nyeri half marathon that was to take place on the same date.
Athletics Kenya chairman Mr. Isaiah Kiplagat said this today during a press conference at Riadha house in Nairobi.
"There is nothing else we could have done because we don't want complications on 29th and again these are two marathons with the same objectives.
Mr. Kiplagat said the aim of the event is to promote culture and tourism in the area adding that it will also support provision of clean water for the people, sanitation and education.
He urged the sponsors of the event not to shy away in promoting the event saying it had official certificate of permit from the ministry.
"This activity will be charitable to people in Maasai land and I urge everybody to participate as a way of giving them hope," he said.
The inaugural Mara Marathon is set to promote environment and tourism in the area as well as pool funds for the provision of social amenities and raise awareness on literacy in the community.
The event will consist three categories the half marathon, the 10km and the 5 kilometre race.
