Pressure is mounting on the Attorney General Amos Wako to resign instead of defending himself against accusations of frustrating the reform agenda.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights-KNCHR- vice chairman Hassan Omar Hassan said Wako should quit because the public has lost confidence in him.

Wako has been banned from stepping on the US soil but has vowed to put a legal fight to clear his name.

Meanwhile, the KNCHR wants the government to hasten the process of investigation and prosecution of perpetrators of the post election violence regardless of their position in the society.

The commission claims the government has not shown commitment to ending impunity in the country and the International Criminal Court was the only hope for Kenyans.

Addressing the press in their office Friday vice chairman Hassan Omar Hassan challenged the government to fully cooperate with the ICC chief prosecutor by referring the post election chaos to the international court.

On Thursday, the government declined to refer post election violence cases to the ICC reiterating its commitment to establishing a judicial mechanism to try the suspects.

But the ICC chief prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo who held talks with President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga said investigations into the Kenyan situation could open in December.

Elsewhere, Deputy Prime Minister and Local Government Minister Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed calls by various stakeholders for the International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo to meet victims of the post election polls during his current short visit.

The deputy premier was speaking when he officially opened the Kitale ASK Show.
