With the draft constitution set to be released on Tuesday Parliamentary committee on the constitution secretary Margaret Kamar has assured Kenyans that members of parliament are resolved to see a new constitution in place before the 2012 general elections.
Differences between ODM and PNU on the system of governance however continue to beleaguer the constitution making process, threatening the endorsement of the new draft.
The biggest tussle for the committee is over who should wield executive authority in the country and how his appointment or election should be carried out remains a source of heated debate between the two parties in the coalition government.
While ODM wants a ceremonial president elected by an electoral college, and an executive prime minister who is the leader of the party with the majority in parliament, PNU is asking for a president elected by the majority, who wields executive power.
However, Eldoret East MP Margaret Kamar says party differences will not affect Kenyans' resolve to attain a new constitution.
It is however clear that the highly anticipated draft constitution's endorsement will hinge on its ability to create room for fair representation that might once and for all entrench equality in Kenya's society.
