World Trade Organization - WTO, Director-General Pascal Lamy, says the upcoming WTO Ministerial Conference in Geneva will not be a negotiating session but a platform for ministers to review the functioning of the WTO.
It will also be a chance for policy makers to review achievements arising from the Doha Round which has not been concluded and look at monitoring and surveillance to disputes, accessions, Aid for Trade, technical assistance and international governance.
Early December, trade ministers will converge in Geneva, Switzerland for the 7th Ministerial Conference.
The meeting will seek to review the activities of the multilateral trading system and provide the necessary guidance to the institution for the next few years.
In a statement Lamy said upcoming Ministerial Conference "is a unique occasion for the WTO membership to send a number of strong signals to the world with respect to the entire WTO waterfront of issues - from monitoring and surveillance to disputes, accessions, Aid for Trade, technical assistance and international governance.
"On this latter point, I think we have a collective interest in setting a positive and constructive tone for international cooperation ahead of the Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen," he said.
