President Mwai Kibaki Thursday at State House, Nairobi, held talks with former Ghanaian President John Kufuor who is the current World Food Programme special envoy on hunger.
The former President updated President Kibaki on his new mission and said he looked forward to working with the Kenyan government to implement programmes aimed at combating hunger.
On his part, President Kibaki informed Kufuor on steps the Kenyan government is taking to ensure food security for all Kenyans.
The Head of State said he looked forward to working with the special envoy in his mission to fight hunger in the region and around the world.
Meanwhile, President Kibaki arrived in Arusha, Tanzania Thurday evening, for a three day official visit during which he will attend the 11th Summit of the Heads of State of the East African Community.
The Plane carrying the Head of State and his delegation touched down at the Kilimanjaro International Airport shortly after 5-pm.
On arrival President Kibaki was received by senior Government officials of the republic of Tanzania and the Kenyan High Commissioner to Tanzania Ambassador Mutinda Mutiso among others before being entertained by groups of choirs and traditional dancers.
President Kibaki will join other EAC Heads of State, the host, President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi in commemorating the 10th anniversary of the East African Community.
The EAC Heads of State will address the public at Sheikh Abeid Stadium in Arusha and award trophies to winners of the EAC 10th Anniversary Football Competition as part of the anniversary celebrations.
President Kibaki is accompanied by ministers Amazon Jeffa Kingi, Amos Kimunya, John Munyes, Assistant Ministers Orwa Ojode, Peter Munya, Wavinya Ndeti, Attorney General Amos Wako and head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Amb. Francis Muthaura among others
