Scouting movement plays a crucial role in offering good training for the youth in areas of leadership, responsibility and character formation, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has said.
Mr. Musyoka who is also the Chief Commissioner of Scouts noted that the membership of the movement comprise the youth who are at their formative stage who require adequate guidance and impacting of knowledge to prepare them for their future role in the society.
"These are the change agents in our society, scouts believe in the brother-sisterhood principle which can help the society overcome negative ethnicity and fight other social evils", he added.
The Vice President made the remarks Friday evening during a fundraising dinner for the Kenya Scouts Association held at Holiday Inn Westlands in Nairobi.
The Dinner is part of the ongoing preparation for the forthcoming 13th World Scout Moot to be held from July 27 to August 7, 2010 in Kenya.
The Moot that expects to host over 3000 delegates from across the globe is the first one to be held in Africa.
Mr. Musyoka assured of the government support, saying that besides providing a forum for the youth to interact and share experiences, the event will also project good image for the country and prove wrong negative publicity that it received during the post election chaos.
The Deputy Director, Youth Affairs, Ms. Susan Njau, who represented Youth and Sports Minister, Prof. Hellen Sambili, thanked the organizers of the event for their commitment, saying the preparations were on course as the necessary structures were being put in place.
The Deputy Director who is also the Vice Chair Person of the Moot Organizing committee, said the government of the Kshs. 40million the government pledged for the event already Kshs. 33,500 have been released.
Also present were, Assistant Chairman, Resource Mobilization Committee, Mr. James Mathenge and Deputy Chief Commissioner, Mathias Wanyera among representatives of sponsors and wellwishers.
