The International Criminal Court Prosecutor Louis moreno-Ocampo Thursday set in motion the process of having post election violence perpetrators tried at the international court.
The prosecutor filed a request to pre-trial judges at The Hague for an authorization to begin investigations into post election violence in Kenya.
Speaking to journalists via video conference, Ocampo said his office is ready to conduct extensive investigations stretching beyond the Waki list of suspects.
The prosecutor said the court will proceed independently following the government's failure to refer the case to the ICC.
If he is granted the go ahead by the pre-trial judges, Ocampo says his work will begin in March next year when he will travel to the country to meet with victims of the violence.
He said the ICC would guarantee the security of those who choose to testify for the prosecution. " My investigations will be intensive, and that he will go beyond the Waki envelope in searching for those responsible for the violence".
Ocampo has now invited the views and comments of the victims on the investigations to be presented to his office within the next 30 days through the ICC website.
The prosecutor maintains that Kenya will be an example to other governments on ending impunity and shunning violence.
