KQ cargo invests in cargo tracking system

Kenya Airways Cargo has invested in a state-of-the-art system that will assist in the tracking of cargo.

The system known as Cargo Spot, to be unveiled at the beginning of next year, will greatly improve the cargo handling processes of the airline.

"We have integrated the operations and cargo system to bring efficiency in the entire cargo handling process and grow revenue," Kenya Airways Cargo General Manager Sauda Rajab said during her maiden address at The Pride Centre.

Kenya Airways Cargo contributes over Kshs 7 billion of the airline's annual turnover.

The airline has also invested in a Perishable Centre one of the largest cold room facility in Africa that is 2,500 square meters - capable of holding 100 pallets at a ago. 

The centre will be launched early next year.

She said the airline launched seven new routes this year namely Brazzaville, Republic of Congo; Libreville, Gabon; Ndola, Zambia; Gaborone, Botswana;  Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo; Malabo, Equatorial Guinea and Bangui in the Central African Republic in a bid to give customers more connection options.

KQ fleet includes four Boeing 777-200; six Boeing 767-300ER; five Boeing 737-800; four Boeing 737-700; four Boeing 737-300 and three Embraer 170LR.        

Kenya Airways today serves over three million passengers annually and flies to over 50 destinations worldwide - 40 of which are in Africa.

The airline operates direct flights to Amsterdam, Paris and London and select destinations in Asia, including Dubai, Mumbai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Bangkok. 

Kenya Airways Cargo is responsible for selling the cargo belly capacity on Kenya Airways passenger aircrafts and is looking at developing a dedicated freighter network through its central hub at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) - Nairobi.

Kenya Airways Cargo is able to serve vast regional and international network that stretches from London & Amsterdam in Europe to Johannesburg in the South, and from Dubai, Bangkok and Guangzhou in the East to Accra, Abidjan and Dakar in the West.

Other measures taken by Kenya Airways Cargo to improve service delivery includes improving service deliver, training of staff, increasing cargo capacity and investing in technology. 

The range of KQ Cargo products are KQ Courier, KQ Express, KQ Pharma, KQ Secure, KQ Live, KQ Mail while its services include Chartered Brokerage.
