Businessman Munir Haroon Ismael held in connection with a second arms cache discovered in Narok was Thursday arraigned at a Nairobi court.
Munir who appeared before Nairobi chief magistrate Gilbert Mutembei pleaded not guilty to new charges of being in possession of firearms without a valid certificate.
Munir was last week found in possession of over 3000 ammunition of different calibers without a valid firearm certificate.
He applied through his lawyer Pravin Bowry to be released on a reasonable cash bail.
The prosecution however objected the application saying that Munir was likely to abscond if granted bail.
His lawyer however defended him arguing that an affidavit presented to court was full of speculations and that Munir is a Kenyan who knows the consequences of disappearing.
He added that Munir was in custody on the 1st of February, the date that the prosecution is alleging that he committed the offence.
Mutembei will rule on whether to release the accused on a cash bail on Friday (tomorrow). The matter will be mentioned on the 16th of this month.
The new cache was recovered during a major police operation in Narok.
The businessman is facing other charges of being in possession of government property. He is accused together with his wife, Nahid Tabasum, former AP Chief Armourer John Maritim, Mr John Wandeto and Mr Dominic Mufumu.
