Three suspected gangsters were Saturday morning shot dead by police in the city's Kikuyu area.

According to Kiambu OCPD Samuel Mukindia, the three were part of a gang of nine robbers who were planning to commit a robbery in the area when police caught up with them at Gitaru.

According to  Kiambu OCPD Samuel Mukindia, police acting on a tip off waylaid the group at the gitaru bridge before a  shoot out ensued before police overpowered two of the suspected robbers.

The third suspect, a woman alleged to be the mastermind of the ill scheme was shot inside her car approximately 200 meters away as she tried to escape from the scene.

According to the police, the dead suspects were in a group of 9 on a mission to commit a robbery at the finance cooperation branch in the area.

Two pistols and 4 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

However, there were conflicting reports on the circumstances surrounding the shooting with allegations that one of the suspects was a victim of circumstances.
