Kenya's Harambee Stars midfielder Macdonald Mariga made his debut at the European Champions League last night for Inter Milan, as the Italian giants sent English premiership side Chelsea crashing out of the tournament with a 1-0 win at the Stamford Bridge.
Mariga came in as a substitute for Wesley Sneijder in the dying minutes of the match.
Kenyans could hardly hide their pride as they watched Mariga become the first player from the East African region to play in the European League.
Samuel Eto's clinical strike 11 minutes from time sealed the quarterfinals place for Mourinho's side at the expense of the club he left in 2007 after a hugely successful three-and-a-half years.
Inter Milan join Manchester United, Olympic Lyon, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and CSKA Moscow, who beat Spanish side Sevilla 2-1 last night, in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile former local footballing giants AFC Leopards will take on the 2007 champions Tusker in a Kenya Premier League midweek clash Wednesday night at the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.
The match is expected to be a thriller with both sides having a chance to move to second place on the table if they register a win.
Having beaten defending champions Sofapaka last Wednesday night, Leopards start with a slight advantage of having played under floodlights. Popularly known as Ingwe, Leopards will be boosted by the presence of Itubu Imbem and Dimonde Selenga.
They face a Tusker side which went down 2-1 at Sher Karuturi 10 days ago.
Tusker coach James Nandwa will be without long-term absentees Joseph Njuguna and Augustine Etemesi but last season's top marksman Joseph Emeka will be in action.
Tusker and AFC Leopards have 6 points each and lie in positions 5th and 9th respectively.
