Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Major (RTD) Marsden Madoka has reiterated the need for relevant parties involved in the Somalia National Reconciliation Peace Process to be fully committed to the course so as to bring the suffering of the Somalia people to an end. Madoka expressed optimism that the ongoing technical committee meeting for the proposed national reconciliation conference on Somalia currently being held in Nairobi will be successful. The Minister was speaking at his office in Nairobi while receiving the new representative of the United Nations Secretary- General for Somalia, Mr Winston A. Tubman. The new UN representative hailed the role played by Kenya in the Somalia peace process saying that various concerns by all the relevant parties be addressed early enough to facilitate the process. The Technical Committee members attending the meeting are drawn from the frontline states of Kenya, Djibouti and Ethiopia. The meeting precedes the proposed National Reconciliation Conference scheduled for later this month. The Technical Committee is charged with the task of working out modalities to facilitate the proposed National Reconciliation Conference on Somalia. Also present during the function was a senior political advisor with United Nations Mr Baba A. Femi Badejo, Head of International Conference and Organisation (IOC) and Small Arms division, and Mr Ambeyi Ligabo of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
