KFF in surprise change of venue

Written By:Joseph Onyango   , Posted: Fri, Jul 05, 2002

The Kenya Football Federation (KFF) governing council meeting scheduled for Garrisa on Saturday was switched to Friday in a surprise turn of events. The eagerly awaited meeting was hurriedly held at Matuu in Machakos throwing many soccer followers off-guard. KFF acting secretary general Hussein Swaleh who briefed the press in Nairobi on Friday afternoon said they had decided to hold the meeting in Matuu due to insecurity in North Eastern province. The meeting, which was attended by delegates from eight provinces ratified the appointment of Hussein as secretary general, Mohamed Hatimy as the national treasurer and Allan Chanane as the new deputy secretary general. Swaleh said the council also ratified the dissolved executive committee's decision not to relegate any team from the premier league. The delegates said they fully supported a decision by the committee to sack national team coach Reinhardt Fabisch over two months ago. He said the national soccer side Harambee Stars would report to camp on Monday July 8 under the newly appointed coach Jacob 'Ghost' Mulei who will be assisted by Mickey Weche.
