The ministry of higher education is concerned that it may not absorb students finishing high school due to overstretched resources.

Education minister Dr. Sally Kosgey is now urging development partners to assist the government in developing capacity to enable the students' gain meaningful training for the job market.

She spoke in her office when she received the U.S secretary of education Margaret spellings who paid her a courtesy call.

On her part U.S secretary of Education Margaret Spellings assured of her government's commitment to improving Kenya's quality of higher education through research and exchange programmes.

Spellings is on a three nation tour which includes Zambia, Kenya and Rwanda to discuss mechanisms for implementing the Africa US Higher Education collaborative initiative.

The government introduced free primary education, the transition of students from primary school to high school and into institutions of higher learning has been rising steadily, a trend that is worrying the ministry of higher learning due to the strain it has caused on the already overstretched capacity.
