TSC now proposes sharing of teachers
Governors and MPs will not be directly involved in the teacher’s recruitment at county levels as they will not sit in the county recruitment panels.
Teachers’ service commission secretary Gabriel Lengoiboni told the parliamentary committee on education that the decision to leave out politicians out of the recruitment process was informed by the need to achieve a corrupt-free recruitment that was free from political interference.
The teacher’s service commission boss had appeared before the parliamentary committee on education and research to lay down the guidelines and criteria it was planning to use to address the perennial challenge of teachers shortage in the country.
Despite the government having provided 2.2 Billion shilling to employ 5000 teachers in the current financial year, the formula to distribute the teachers remains a greater challenge with the national teachers’ shortage standing at 90,000.
