UDF Party faults arrest of Lamu Governor Timamy

The United Democratic Front-UDF Party has faulted the arrest of UDF Lamu Governor, Issa Timamy, over the recent killings in Lamu County.
In a statement, UDF Party leader, Musalia Mudavadi, said the Amani coalition is offended by the inhumane manner in which Timamy was arrested and detained at the Mombasa Port police station ahead of his court appearance Thursday.
Mudavadi alleged that Timamy is being victimized for being at the forefront in demanding accountability in the management of land transactions in Lamu County.
He said Timamy should not be used as a scapegoat for failed security agencies under pressure to prove they are working, adding that such arrests will only worsen raw ethnic tensions.
Mudavadi asked the government to come clean and address the real causes of insecurity in Lamu County and the Coastal region in general instead of shifting blame on area leaders.
