Ali Punjani’s home raided over suspicion of drug trafficking

Police have raided the house of Mombasa prominent businessman Ali Punjani in Nyali  in Nyali Monday, on suspicion of his involvement in drug trafficking.

Punjani has been directed to surrender immediately but his lawyer Asige Kiberenge said the tycoon suffered a heart attack in July and is hospitalised in India.

Mombasa County Commander Johnstone Ipara is currently leading the operation.

While commissioning the Mbaraki police post Monday on Mombasa Island, Mombasa County Commander Johnstone Ipara Monday told residents to brace themselves for a major security operation to flush out drug barons and criminal gangs.

“With the opening of police posts at Nyali, Junda and Concordia in Kisauni, police officers were ready to conduct a crackdown never witnessed in the coastal city,” said Ipara.

16 suspects linked to drug trafficking have been arrested and are expected to be arraigned in court.
