14 Nyabururu girls students in hospital over food poisoning

At Least 14 students at Nyabururu girls school in Kisii were admitted at Kisii level 5 hospital in a suspected case of food poisoning.

The admission of the students has sparked controversy amid claims the schools institution attempted to keep the parents in the dark over the matter.

Trouble started on Thursday when a number of students begun showing symptoms of diarrhea, chest pain and general weakness but the school is said to have failed to act immediately.

The information sparking concern among parents who rushed to the institution to check on the health status of their children.

The students who did not want to appear on camera for fear of victimization allege the institutions kitchen was dirty and could be a contributing factor.

Local leaders demanded the school administration be held accountable.

The county director of public health Meritus  Kaba however downplayed the issue says there is  no cause  for alarm saying only 14 out of   1,900 students had been taken ill in what he claims is normal in a populated area.

Parents accused the institutions management of failing to inform them on the incident.
