2016’s CECAFA hangs in the balance after host TZ pulls out

By KBC Sports Desk.

The occurrence of the CECAFA club championship this year is in doubt after Tanzania declined to host the annual East and Central Africa club competition, a few days before the scheduled kick off date.

Tanzania pulled out from hosting the event citing fixture congestion following Yanga FC’s (Young African FC) qualification for the group stage of this year’s CAF Confederations Cup.

The CECAFA secretariat has been in talks with other countries in bid to find another host for the competition.

CECAFA secretary general Nicholas Musonye is said to have requested Football Kenya Federation to host the competition but Kenyan bosses have not given assurances over the issue.

The club championship was set to kick off on the 15th of this month, but its fate remains unclear.

In 2014 the East and Central Africa Soccer body failed to host the senior championship in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia due to lack of sponsorship.
