2017 IAAF World U-18 facilities construction on track

The refurbishment of the Kasarani stadium and the athletes village at the Kenyatta University grounds for next year’s  9th edition of the IAAF World under 18 athletics championship  slated for the 12th -16th of July next year will kick off early next month.

According to organizing committee Chief Executive Mwangi Muthee, the designing work for the tartan track and the Sports village is complete and the contactors are expected to commence the work early next month.

The committee presented a progressive report to the sports ministry with only 287 days remaining to the continental championship.

Sports cabinet Secretary Dr. Hassan Wario reiterated the government’s commitment to deliver a world class event and promised that the funds for procurement of equipment from abroad will be released by the end of next month.

Treasury is expected to release 1.3 billion shillings in the first batch out of the two billion shillings set for the organization of the championship that will be hosted in Kenya for the first time.
