FIBA Women’s World Cup: Qualifying host cities revealed

FIBA has confirmed Belgrade (Serbia), Osaka (Japan) and Washington, D.C. (USA) as host cities for the four FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournaments.

Belgrade will host two qualifying tournaments, while Osaka and Washington, D.C.  will each stage one event. The qualifying tournaments will take place from February 10 to 13th 2022.

The 16 national teams to take part in the four FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournaments  earned the right to participate through their performance earlier this year in their respective Continental Cup events.

The field is comprised of two teams from Africa – Mali and Nigeria; four sides from the Americas – Brazil, Canada, Puerto Rico and the United States; four teams from Asia/Oceania – Australia, China, Japan, Korea; and six European sides – Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Russia and Serbia.

Three countries from each four-team tournament will advance to the 12-team field of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022, which is set to be held from September 21 to October 1 in Sydney, Australia.

The host of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022, Australia, and Tokyo Olympic champions, USA, are participating in the qualifying tournaments but receive automatic qualification for the event in Sydney.
