A total of 240 golfers turned up during the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) annual corporate golf day at the Nyali Golf and Country club in Mombasa County.
This is the highest number of golfers registered in a tournament in recent years while last week 200 golfers took part during the inaugural Mombasa county governor’s trophy tournament at the same venue.
KPA acting Managing Director Daniel Manduku, who was the first KPA MD to take part in the golf tournament, led the 240 golfers in teeing off at the conveyor belt starting point at 8.24 am.
Manduku was in the company of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) National Vice chairman James Mureu, Musyimi Jennifer, Oundo Steve and Wachira Sam.
KPA Kisumu depot manager Yobesa Oyaro who won this year’s third edition of the annual Sanlam Golf Challenge at the same venue, playing off handicap 13, teed-off at 8 am and KPA public relations officer Charles Odoo teed-off at 8.16 am.
Other golfers who teed-off during the well attended tournament were former AFC Leopard and Kenya international player Dr Joseph Masiga.
Others who braved the hot weather to take part in the tournament are veteran sports journalist Larry Ngala and Nyali Golf and Country Club committee member Clement Agina.
KPA officer Teresia Odoo was among the players who registered in the authority’s staff category.
By the time of going to press other golfers were in the process of teeing-off before the close of the day.
The award and presentation ceremony will be held late at night before end of the day.
