A total of 30 athletes will be selected this Saturday at Uhuru Gardens for the upcoming 5th edition of the African cross-country championships set for Chlef, Algeria on the 17th of next month.
New York marathon and two time world cross country champion Geoffrey Kamworor will however not compete in the event.
Thirty athletes will represent Kenya at the 5th edition of the Africa cross-country championships set to be held in Algeria next month.
However two time world cross country champion Geoffrey Kamworor will not be among the 30 runners that will be selected on Saturday at Uhuru Gardens.
Kamworor has ruled himself out of the competition with reports indicating he will only focus on running at the World Half Marathon in Valencia, Spain, on the 24th of next month.
A one to six criteria will be used in all the five events of the trials that will attract all the 16 Athletics Kenya regions and affiliates to compete against themselves for ratings by national athletics body.
The selected team will report to the training camp on the 20th of this month at the Kigari teachers training college until 13th of next month when they depart for Algiers.
Kenya dominated the 42nd edition of the IAAF World Cross Country championship held last year at the green lush of Kololo Ceremonial Independence grounds in the heart of Kampala collecting 95 points and 10 medals in total; 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.
