410 new Covid cases reported as 22 die

The country Wednesday reported 410 new coronavirus cases and 22 deaths. The positive cases were derived from a sample size of 3,799 tested in the last 24 hours representing a positivity rate of 10.8pc

18 people succumbed to the disease on diverse dates within the last one month and only four are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits pushing the cumulative fatalities to 2,950.

Of the cases, 393 are Kenyans while 17 are foreigners. 253 are males and 157 are females. The youngest is a five-month-old infant while the oldest is 100 years.

“Total confirmed positive cases are now 164,386 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,729,345” announced Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on a day Kenya joined the world in marking nurses day.

The distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (24), 10-19 years (10), 20-29 years (70), 30-39 years (112), 40-49 years (68), 50-59 years (50), 60 and above (76).

According to the statistics, those who died were aged 40 years and above “New deaths by age; 0-9 years (0), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (0), 30-39 years (0), 40-49 years (3), 50-59 years (5), 60 years and above (14)”.

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi leads with 76, Kericho 51, Meru 40, Kisumu 36, Mombasa 27, Uasin Gishu 25, Kisii 19, Siaya and Migori 18 cases each. Others are Nakuru 12, Kirinyaga 11, Kilifi 8, Kitui, Kiambu and Homa Bay 7 cases each, Nyamira 6, Vihiga and Marsabit 5 cases each, Murang’a 4, Garissa, Machakos, Nandi and Nyeri 3 cases each, Kajiado, Laikipia, Nyandarua and Turkana 2 cases each, Bomet, Makueni, Mandera, Kakamega, Baringo, Taita Taveta, Trans Nzoia and Narok 1 case each.

On a positive note, 67 patients have recovered from the disease, 57 from various health facilities countrywide while 10 are from the Home-Based and Isolation Care. Total recoveries now stand at 113,124 of whom 82,213 are from Home Based Care and Isolation while 30,911 are from various health facilities.

Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (54), 10-19 years (20), 20-29 (104), 30-39 years (244), 40-49 years (380), 50-59 years (630), 60 years and above (1,518).

A total of 1,049 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,823 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.  119 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 22 of whom are on ventilatory support and 74 on supplemental oxygen. 23 patients are under observation.

Another 91 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 86 of them in general wards and 5 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

On vaccinations, 925,509 persons have so far received the jab countrywide.  Of these 282,369 are aged 58 years and above, Health workers, 161,702, Teachers 145,099, Security Officers 78,081 while 256,365 are in the others category.
