60,000 people expected to attend 29th Maralal Camel Derby

At least 60,000 people are expected to attend the twenty ninenth edition of the Maralal International Camel Derby in Maralal, Samburu County.

The three day international event will be held under the theme cultural diversity through sports and wildlife conservation and begins on Thursady.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala is expected to grace the three day event at the Yare conservancy as the County Government prepares to host at least 20,000 people daily.

All 47 Governors have also been invited to witness the derby which is Kenya’s best known and most prestigious camel race, attracting both local and international competitors.

Traders and hoteliers are excited by the high number of guests as the hotels were booked to capacity.

The Samburu community is expected to showcase its rich heritage in arts, contemporary music, traditional food, manyattas and the business community is expected to use the festival to exhibit and promote about their products.
