62-year-old grandmother sentenced to 35 years in jail for robbery

A 62-year-old former convict of Shimo La Tewa GK Prison has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for robbery with violence.

Joyce Wairimu Kariuki had appeared before Loitoktok Law Courts on April 23, 2019 charged with robbery with violence.

According to tweets by Director Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Wairimu was arrested following numerous reports of stolen motor vehicles especially lorries in Nakuru, Nairobi and Mombasa between 2018 and 2019.

DCI detectives say they narrowed down on the suspect around whom the thefts revolved despite having been released from the said prison after completing a 15-year jail term.

Meanwhile, Brian Mbache Libasi who is suspected of breaking into a foreign High Commissioner’s residence on 23rd June, 2020 has been nabbed by DCI detectives from his hideout at Mwembeni area in Kibra and all household items reported to have been stolen during the incident recovered.

The sleuths have been pursuing the culprit, a former security guard who was on duty on the fateful day at the High Commissioner’s residence in Kileleshwa.

Two carpets, a gas cooker, an LG fridge, shoes, bedsheets, curtains, a coffee table, a TV stand, a laptop among other items that were recovered from the suspect’s house have been retained as exhibits.

The suspect will be arraigned Wednesday.
