Kenya’s Jackline Wambui wins heat 3 girls 800 meters

Kenya’s Lydia Jerutoh and Jackline Wambui cruised to the semi finals of the girls 800 metres race in the ongoing World Under 18 athletics Championship at Kasarani stadium in Nairobi.

Wambui won heat one of the race in a time of two minutes 8.24seconds while Jeruto finished second in her heat clocking two minutes 10.37 seconds.

However, Irene Akinyi and Leah Jerutoh were eliminated in the 400 metres hurdles.

In the men’s 110 metres hurdles Peter Wambua was eliminated after he finished seventh in heat two.

On Thursday morning, Kenya’s Edward Zakayo and Stanley Mburu qualified for the 3000 metres finals.

Zakayo clocked eight minutes 04.85 second to win heat two, ahead of Mengesha Milkesha of Ethiopia and Michael Bereket of Eritrea who finished second and third, respectively.

Stanley Mburu finished second in the heat one, behind Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega who emerged victorious in a time of seven minutes 55.73 seconds.

Iscar Chelimo from Uganda also qualified after finishing third.
