KEPSA: Peaceful election paramount for Kenya’s socio economic growth

By Regina Manyara

The Kenya Private Sector alliance has said that a peaceful and credible election is paramount for Kenya’s socio economic growth.

Mkenya Daima Chair Vimal Shah is urging the business community to take part in the peace pledge campaign aimed at maintaining investor confidence ahead of the August polls in a bid to quell jitters already being felt.

The aftermath of the post election violence in 2007/2008 left a trail of not only death but losses running into of millions of shillings that threatened to cripple the economy.

The tourism sector bore the brunt characterized by travel advisories from traditional source markets.

The peace pledge campaign under the Mkenya Daima initiative brings together politicians, business leaders and government officials.

The business community is urging institutions charged with regulating and monitoring the elections to ensure credibility and peace.

Shah further emphasized on the need to diversify the country’s investment portfolio so as to boost direct investments.
