Commodity producers and traders are upbeat ahead of the official opening of Isiolo International Airport slated for mid next month.

The 1.7 billion shillings airport is expected to be a game changer in the Northern Kenya tourism circuit as well as boost trade in agricultural commodities.

The airport has a capacity to handle 135,000 passengers annually.

With its position at the center of the country, Isiolo County could become the next business frontier for Kenya with the opening of the Airport.

Air travel too is set to replace road transport that often takes longer.

Commodity producers, traders and stakeholders in the tourism sector within Isiolo and Samburu circuits have expressed optimism that the facility will be a game changer in improving their fortunes.

The airport is billed to revolutionize the livestock industry as locals take advantage of the export market for meat products.

In addition its close proximity to Meru County the main producer for miraa is expected to reduce the time taken for transporting the commodity to the main market in Somalia.

The region boasts some of the best tourist attractions and game reserves including Samburu, Shaba, Bufallo Springs and Bisanadi as well as the Meru National park.
