7 songs you might have missed

Youtube is a video sharing website with over 1 Billion users which means that more often than not, you will miss a few songs

In the world of international music, names like Taylor Swift reign supreme. Last week, Taylor Swift released the colourful “Me” featuring Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie which went on to become a trending worldwide hit on Youtube. While the world was watching Taylor, a few African artists were dropping their own hit singles. Here’s a list of the hits you might have missed.

“Radio,” Tanasha Donna

Currently trending at number 1 on Youtube in the country, “Radio” is Tanasha Donna’s debut single featuring Kenyan radio host and rapper Barak Jacuzzi. Tanasha is a Kenyan model currently dating Bongo Maestro Diamond Platnumz.

“Oh My Gosh,” Yemi Alade featuring Rick Ross

Award-winning Afro-pop sensation Yemi Alade collaborates with American rapper Rick Ross for the remix to her sultry classic “Oh My Gosh”, currently trending at number 12. This banger is sure to be on every summer pool party playlists all around the world. The track is a fun mix of African pop and hip-hop with rhythmic African drums echoing the background. Yemi had this to say about working with Rick Ross, “It was beyond what I expected; he had such a humble spirit and was very encouraging. He made me feel very comfortable. (It’s incredible) to have someone as magnificent as him describe me in one word, and the word he chose was ‘motivation’. I hope it will reflect in the video.”

Either way, the track is a hit.

“Superman,” Khaligraph Jones

AFRIMMA’s Best Rap Act 2018 and Kenya’s favourite rapper Khaligraph Jones dropped this music video “Superman” late last week. Khaligraph has to be one of Kenya’s most consistent rappers of the past decade. This hit comes just two months after “Beat It” and 6 months after the monster collaboration that was The Khali Cartel 2.

“The One,” Diamond Platnumz

Bongo love ballads are kind of Diamond Platnumz’s thing, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this too is a love ballad and a beautifully shot ballad at that. In the video description on Youtube Diamon writes, “Let this be a dedication to the one you love,” and honestly that’s the best description of this song.

“Cheza Chini,” Vivian featuring Naiboi and Savara

Vivian is among Kenya’s top female artists with a vast catalogue of music in diverse genres. On this track, she teams up with Savara from Sauti Sol and Naiboi who’s recent song 2 in 1 has been topping Kenya’s charts.

“Rainbow,” Kristoff

Kristoff is well known for his slew of club bangers including “Umeniwahi”, “Handle It” and the 2018 mega collaboration “Dundaing” with King Kaka and Magix Enga. In this single, the certified hit maker delivers a heartfelt mid-tempo love jam – blending rap and melody. Produced by Jack Jack On The Beat, “Rainbow” was mixed and mastered by Lucas of Ogopa DJs with Yvonne Darcq providing the backup vocals.

“Ya Dunia,” Serro

Serro’s new single is a soulful single off her upcoming album Kuwe. The song’s heartfelt lyrics, intoned by rich vocals, is an eye-opening reflection of the world’s reality in the age of social media. Speaking on the release, Serro said, “I hope that the song will spark a conversation based on honesty and truth. I hope it inspires people to share their own truth so that we can all learn to be more understanding.”

“Ya Dunia” comes on the back of her much-touted performance at the 2019 edition of Cake Art Affair where she treated thousands of attendees to an enthralling performance alongside her band – The Charactaz.
