Defending champions Gor Mahia have climbed up to pole position on the Kenyan Premier League table after beating Zoo Kericho 4-2 in their second match of the 2018 season played on Thursday in Kericho.
The title holders went in search of maximum points early in the game but had to wait until the 35th minute to find the back of the net through Jacques Tuyisenge.
Just four minutes into the second half Boniface Omondi extended Kogalo’s lead by scoring their second goal but Johnson Ligare pulled a goal back for the hosts in the 58th minute.
And just when it looked like Zoo would find an equalizer, Gor Mahia’s intentions of collecting three away points were made clear in the 72nd and 75th minutes when the Kenyan giants found the target twice through Joachim Oluoch and Samuel Onyango.
There was to be late drama in the tie as Zoo once again breached Kogalo’s defence and goalpost in the 77th minute, scoring their second of the match, but they could not snatch a point as the champions held on for the victory.
Kogalo now move level on points with Mathare United at the top of the table, heading into the third round of the 2018 season.
