A defamation case involving a county government employee failed to take off after the prosecution introduced two other new charges against him on Wednesday.
A Defence lawyer, Ken Muriuki said he was prepared to defend Seth Mutugi who was expected to take aplea over defamation charges levelled against him but unfortunately some two other files were said to have been introduced.
Mutugi works in the Meru County communication department.
The lawyer told the media that he had not been presented with the two files and was not privy to the new charges expected to face his client.
He said the matter had been taken back to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further directions.
Mutugi is out on a cash bail of Shs. 10,000 after he was arrested last Saturday over allegations of defaming the County Executive Committee member for Sports, Gender, Youth and Social Services, Joy Karui on a facebook page.
The complainant’s lawyer, Hosea Mutembei confirmed that indeed two new charges of a similar nature had been introduced facing the same suspect.
He said the due prosecution process was being followed allaying fears that the matter was being dropped completely.
“The files have been taken back to the DPP for further perusal and anytime the suspect shall be arraigned in court,” he added.
He said once witnesses record their statement, the matter shall be availed in court.
