Preparations for the burial on Monday of the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua are complete.

According to the late governor’s family, President Uhuru Kenyatta is among leaders expected to attend the burial at Hiriga, in Ngorano location Nyeri County.

Geoffrey Rigathi a younger brother to the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua says preparations have been finalized to accord the late County boss a befitting sendoff.

Burial committees that included family members and representatives from the National and County governments agreed that the funeral at the late Gachagua’s home in Hiriga will be an interdenominational affair.

Rigathi said the burial ceremony is open to all including Members of the County Assembly of Nyeri. This comes after Nyeri MCAs led by Majority Leader Duncan Gituanja recently expressed reservations about attending the burial saying they had received threats from unnamed persons.

The MCAs had a strained relationship with the late Governor after passing an impeachment motion against him which was later overruled by the Senate.

As Nyeri’s first Governor the late Nderitu Gachagua is credited with initiating several development projects for the benefit of farmers such as reviving the local coffee industry.

The late Gachagua died a week ago at a London hospital after a long illness. His body is lying at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
