Wanga leads in race for golden boot after 30 matches

Kakamega Homeboyz forward Allan Wanga leads the top scorers chart in the Kenya Premier League after bagging his 18th goal in Sunday’s 2-0 win against Western Stima in a match played at the Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega.

With 4 games to go, the tally betters that of last season’s top scorer Eric Kapaito, who scored 16 goals in 34 games for Kariobangi Sharks.

After managing only five goals in the 2018 Kenya Premier League season, Kenyan International Allan Wanga is the top contender of the 2018/2019 season with 18 goals so far, a fete that has helped Kakamega Homeboyz record 14 wins in 30 matches so far.

And with four matches left before the season concludes, Wanga faces stiff competition for the golden boot from Sofapaka’s Umaru Kasumba and Enosh Ochieng of Ulinzi Stars who are on 16 goals each.

Mathare United’s midfielder Cliff Nyakeya is 4th on the list with 13 goals, while Derrick Otanga has netted 11 goals for a rejuvenated Sony Sugar which has recorded 13 matches in 29 matches, more than they recorded the whole of last season where they only won 12 matches.

Meanwhile, League Leaders Gor Mahia are only a game away from winning the 2018/2019 title to take their trophy tally to 18.

Gor Mahia who defeated 2nd placed Sopafaka FC 2-0 at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu, only require a victory against Nzoia United at Sudi Stadium on Wednesday to clinch the title for a record 18th time.

Coast-based Bandari FC will hope to reduce the gap between them and Sofapaka when they welcome Chemelil Sugar to the Mbaraki Stadium on Tuesday.

Four matches are scheduled for Wednesday.
