At least 40 passengers escaped unhurt after a bus they were travelling in burst into flames along the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway near Buoye trading center.
The bus belonging to the Guardian Bus Company was heading to Nairobi from Busia when one of its rear tyres caught fire, reducing it to a shell.
Firefighters from the Kisumu fire department rushed to the scene and put out the fire but the damage was already done, as the passengers’ luggage were as well reduced to ashes.
All the passengers aboard were evacuated to safety and later picked up by a sister bus belonging to the Guardian Bus Company.
What was remaining of the bus was later towed to Kisumu central police station with Kisumu County police commander Alphonse Kimathi indicating commencement of investigations into the dawn incident.
