Azziad Nasenya becomes “Save our Future” Ambassador

“I strongly believe that education provides dignity,” Azziad said in a tweet supporting the initiative

Azziad Nasenya has been appointed as the official Save Our Future Global Ambassador. The Save Our Future campaign (#SaveOurFuture) is led by the world’s leading international education organizations. It aims to raise awareness about the global education emergency and to encourage an increase in investment to build better more inclusive and resilient education systems for the future as called for by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 – ensuring inclusive and quality education and promoting lifelong learning for all.

At the height of the worst health and economic crisis in a century, 90 per cent of the world’s student population have had their education disrupted. Almost overnight, learning has become reliant on connectivity. But close to half the world’s students don’t have access to the internet. More than 20 million secondary school girls may never return to school when schools reopen.

As the world focuses on the immediate health, economic, and social impacts of the pandemic, there is a risk that the impact on education will be ignored. However, the initiative seeks to shed light on the importance of education.

In a tweet announcing her ambassadorship, Azziad said, “I continue to benefit from education in its many forms & I strongly believe that education provides dignity.”

“Education creates the health workers, the entrepreneurs, and the engineers of the future. Education, especially for girls, is the vaccine for healthier populations. Education increases peace and stability and is essential for sustainable development. In response to this, a global coalition of diverse voices – from civil society to the private sector, youth to researchers, media to multi-laterals, foundations to influencers, and guided by a core team of some of the largest education organizations – are uniting to launch an innovative campaign amplifying the voices of children and young people as they deliver a simple but yet loud and powerful message”, Save Our Future.

Save Our Future is guided by a core hub of the African Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank, Education Cannot Wait, the Education Commission, the Education Outcomes Fund, the Global Partnership for Education, Save the Children, UNESCO, UNHCR, UNICEF, World Bank, and the World Food Programme.
