Bodies of five out of the six people reported missing following Friday’s boat accident in Lake Victoria have been recovered.
13 people were using the boat to travel from neighbouring Sigulu Island in Uganda when it capsized at about 10pm in Budalang’i, Busia County.
Seven passengers were rescued and are nursing serious injuries at Port Victoria Sub County hospital.
Efforts to recover the missing body is still on with relatives of the missing person appealing to the government to support them find their kin. The search has been hindered by lack of speed boats and fuel.
Area MP Raphael Wanjala says his office is supporting affected families who have been keeping vigil with food supplies as well as boosting search efforts.
He appealed to both county and national government to assist the families by taking care of the burial expenses.
Bunyala Deputy county commissioner Jacob Ruto is, however, urging fishermen and sailors to wear protective gears while in deep seas and adhere to marine guidelines.
