Body of missing Nairobi businessman found in River Thiba


A body believed to be that of Nairobi businessman James Maina who disappeared in April this year has been retrieved from River Thiba in Mbeere South Sub – County.

His body was found strapped to the driver’s seat after his vehicle was pulled out of the river in Makima location.

Farmers who use the River Thiba in Makima location Mbeere Sub-county for irrigation spotted a submerged vehicle and notified authorities. The process of retrieving the vehicle took five hours with the help of villagers and two tractors.

Once the vehicle a volvo was pulled out of the water a body was found strapped on the driver’s seat.

Makima location Chief Charles Muriuki said that they suspect businessman James Maina was crossing a bridge where river Thiba and river Rupingazi merge and was swept away by the heavy currents.

Maina was reported missing in April. He had reportedly been on his way back to Nairobi after visiting his farm in Rwika, Gachoka, Mbeere South sub-county.

His family has been looking for him in hospitals and mortuaries to no avail.
