Boinnet calls for investigation into Trans Nzoia shooting

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has urged the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate Trans Nzoia incident where villagers in Kolongolo clashed with police leading to the death of two people.

Several people were injured during the clash as the villagers tried to rescue a suspect arrested by police in Trans Nzoia.

Police say an officer was forced to open fire when people tried to snatch a gun from him.

Trans Nzoia County Assembly Speaker Joshua Werunga is among those admitted to hospital nursing serious injuries.

A vehicle belonging to the General Service Unit security personnel was also damaged during the Sunday evening incident.

Police have now launched a manhunt for the trouble makers who escaped with the two bodies and called on the public to report individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.

Area leaders have condemned the incident and called on the public not to obstruct the police from performing their duties.
