Brigid Kosgei crowned Kalya Half Marathon Champion

Chicago Marathon Champion Brigid Kosgei and 2017 Hamburg Half Marathon Champion Calipus Lomuyi were crowned new champions of the 5th edition of the Kalya Half Marathon held in Kapenguria, West Pokot.

Kosgei, fresh from winning the Kakamega Forest Half Marathon three weeks ago, won the ladies 21 kilometer race in one hour, 12 minutes and 34 seconds, beating Joy Kemuma and Celestine Chepchirchir who were second and third respectively.

Kosgei started this season with a seventh-place finish in Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon in February before finishing second behind Vivian Cheruiyot in London Marathon in April.

She lined up for the Chicago Marathon and having come second last year, she clinched top position in 2:18:35.

In the men’s category Calipus Lomuyi clocked one hour, five minutes and 20 seconds to cross the finish line first ahead of Andrew Kwemoi and Kibet Soyellwo who settled for the silver and bronze respectively.

The race started at Maili Saba in Trans Nzoia and ended at Makutano Township in West Pokot.
