Busia, Kisumu reach semi-finals in KYISA basketball games

Busia and Kisumu Counties men’s basketball teams ended their preliminary round matches on a clean sheet to qualify for the semi-finals of the Kenya Youth Inter-Counties Sports Association (KYISA) games at Baraton University, Nandi County on Thursday.

Busia beat Nakuru 49-20 in their last match to finish top of Group ‘B’ with six points. They beat Turkana 65-23 in the first match before edging Mukumu 68-17 in their second encounter.

Against Nakuru on Thursday, Busia led 12-7 in the first quarter, 12-10 in the second quarter and 39-12 in the third quarter.

Kisumu ensured top spot in Pool ‘A’ after they beat Nandi 64-44. They will play Nakuru in the semi-finals while Busia will take on Nandi in the other semis.

In the ladies category played on a round robin, Kisumu beat Nakuru 37-13 in the opening match before thrashing Siaya 40-27 in the next game.

They continued with their impressive show, beating hosts Nandi 37-26 and Makueni 28-18 to inch closer to being crowned champions.

Nakuru started their campaign with a 37-28 victory over Makueni before losing to Kisumu and  Turkana 13-37 and 18-39 in their next matches.

They won their last match, beating Nandi 28-24 on Thursday.

Other results  are Nandi  44 Siaya 18, Makueni 25 Bungoma 34, Makueni 39 Nakuru 18, Siaya 28 Makueni 17.
