Busia ward representatives threaten to impeach CEC Member for Finance

Ward representatives from Busia County have threatened to impeach the CEC Member for finance, Phaustine Barasa for allegedly being incompetent.

Speaking during a special sitting at the Busia County Assembly, the ward representatives argued that the County has lagged behind in terms of development due to Barasa’s inability to execute and deliver her duties as expected.

The lawmakers called on the county oversight committee chairperson and members including the CEC to explain why projects in the county have stalled despite funds being allocated in the financial year 2020\2021 failure to which they will table a motion for Barasa’s impeachment.

“I would like the County Secretary Nicholas Mulaku to explain to this house why the county owes contractors debts and why the county’s revenue collection has reduced,” said Patroba Odhiambo, the Lugulu ward representative.

Marachi East ward representative Julius Ochou expressed disappointment stating that since June to date there is no project in his ward that has been completed and residents are on MCA’s neck claiming they have misused their funds.

Ochou also criticized the Department of finance for formulating a poor revenue collection policy which has created gaps for stealing of public funds.

Busia County had targeted to collect Sh1.2 billion for the financial year 2020\2021 but only collected Sh.300 million.
