Butere MP files petition on internship program run by PSC

Butere Member of Parliament Tindi Mwale now wants interns under a programme run by the Public Service Commission absorbed on full time employment.

In a petition to the National Assembly on behalf of the people of Butere Constituency, Mwale wants the House to recommend for the absorption of these interns to the vacancies left by retiring civil servants.

The MP further wants the National Assembly to evaluate the comparable provided by the Ministry of Public Service to value it up to 100 per cent transition to scale up the rates of employment.

This he argues will address the rising cases of unemployment in the Country.

Mwale said Chapter 4 of the Constitution on Bill of Rights provides that the State shall take measures including affirmative action, to ensure that the youth access relevant education and training and have opportunities to associate and participate in political, social, economic and other spheres of life and that they have access to employment.

The MP said while the internship programme is a good idea, a lot needs to be done to ensure those participating in the project are fully employed even before their internship period lapses.
