Nairobí’s Cynthia Chepkirui shook off stiff competition to win the 6km under 20 category during the national cross country championship cum trials held at the Eldoret Sports Club in Uasin Gishu County on Saturday.
Chepkirui, who won both 5th and 6th track and field meets this year, dominated to cut the tape in 20:38.8, 10.3 seconds ahead of Miriam Chemutai Kibet from South Rift, who finished 2nd, while North Rift’s Lonah Cherono completed the podium places in 21:00.0.
Mercy Chepngen, Caren Chepngeno and Mercy Chelimo sealed the top six positions to punch tickets for the World Cross Country Championships set for Tallahassee, USA, on 10th January next year.
