Children’s Court Service week begins Monday

Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu will Monday preside over the launch of a Children’s Court Service week.

The event will take place at Ngong Law Courts. The initiative is aimed at clearing over 430 children matters pending at Ngong Law Courts.

Similar Service Weeks will be conducted in Kilifi, Malindi, Lamu, Nakuru, Meru, Embu, Kikuyu, Garsen and Kwale Law Courts.

The Children’s Court has jurisdiction to handle civil proceedings on matters touching on parental responsibility, children’s institutions, guardianship, custody, and maintenance.

Others include; protection and care of children, judicial orders for care and protection of children and child offenders.

The court also hears any charge against any child except a charge of murder or where a child is charged jointly with an adult. It also hears matters of a person accused of an offense under the Children’s Act.
