City lawyer charged with manslaughter

City lawyer Assa Kibagendi Nyakundi has been charged with manslaughter following the shooting of his son on March 17 2019.

He denied the charge and was released on a 1 million shillings bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh 300,000.

Nyakundi escaped a murder charge in the incident last month where he allegedly accidently shot and killed his son.

Nyakundi was arraigned in a Kiambu court and charged that on March 17, 2019 at unknown place within Nairobi County, he unlawfully killed his son Joseph Bogonko Nyakundi.

Prosecution counsel Stella Oyagi did not oppose the release on bond of the accused but added that the accused should be released on tight bond terms and show commitment to attend court.

She further said witnesses in the case are family members and he should not interfere with them before they testify.

Lydia Nyakundi, Noah Nyakundi, Titus Nyakundi and Ann Amayu are listed as witnesses in the case. The court also ordered the accused to move out of his Muthaiga house so as not to interfere with investigations and witnesses.

Elsewhere, the high court in Nairobi has issued an order stopping the decision of the Firearms Licensing Board to withdraw the firearm certificate held by Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Wekesa Barasa.

Justice John mativo, ordered the board to return the firearm to the MP and also prohibited the Cs Interior Fred Matiang’i from withdrawing the firearm certificate held by the legislator.
