The newly appointed Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata has ordered a major crackdown on notorious gangs terrorizing residents in the region.
His directive comes in the wake of increased crime in Mombasa where local leaders are pointing an accusing finger at parents for abdicating their role.
The Coast Regional Commissioner pledged to bring the vice to an end following a renewed crackdown on those engaging in the sale of contrabands.
Elungata said the war on drugs has been intensified and those found selling, or distributing the drugs will face the full force of the law.
According to Elungata tough action will be taken against individuals found peddling drugs in Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu Counties.
At the same time, Elungata has stated individuals involved in organized crime, terrorism related activities; counterfeit and contraband goods will not be spared.
He urged religious and community leaders to help address the challenge of drug and substance abuse among the youth.
