MG and Porsche sports cars to make an appearance at CBA Africa’s Concours d’Elegance
Concours d’elegance is an annual car event that brings a certain timeless motor elegance to Nairobi. The event brings together all makes and types of cars and motorcycles. Just imagine motor enthusiasts or petrol heads gathered around a beautiful, well-maintained, shiny, elegant old-timey vehicle and you basically have a rough picture of what goes on at Concours.
Concours, however, is not just for enthusiasts, it is “also a social occasion and fun-filled family day” according to their website. Considered Kenya’s poshest automotive garden party, Concours is a great day to try on that fancy sundress you’ve been waiting to wear, check out the live band and have a kids’ day out.
This year’s event will take place on September 30th at the Ngong Racecourse and it will be the 48th in the annual series organised by the Alfa Romeo owners club. Spectators at this year’s 2018 CBA Africa Concours d’Elegance will see MG and Porsche sports cars contesting.
Sati Gata-Aura, seasoned Concours participant, will drive his 1947 MG TC and newcomer Benson Njumbi Ndung’u will place his hopes on a 1947 MG Midget.
It won’t be the first time that the MG’s have made an appearance at the event. Last year Nayen Kavia participated in the Concours for the first time with two immaculate MGBs. Each one was placed first in its class and was listed in the top ten.
Also trying his luck for the second time is Rakesh Shah the Managing Director of Vitafoam Products Limited who is busy preparing a 1966 MGB Roadstar which was placed in the sports car class in 2017.
Sports cars and rally machines are great spectator attractions at motorsport events. At this year’s event, expect to see two 911 Porsches. One from Rob Linck who will be making his first appearance at the Concours with his 1979 Porsche 911 classic rally car and another from Aslam Khan who will drive his 1968 Porsche 911.
The Alfa Romeo Owners Club holds this event each year to celebrate the club’s anniversary. The objective is to give well-maintained car and motorcycle owners the opportunity to have them assessed by experienced officials. It’s also an opportunity for competitors to show off their treasured machines to enthusiastic crowds and to win prizes.
If you want to see what vintage car owners have to offer and buy one if you can, Concours d’ Elegance is the car event to attend.
